My First Blog
What I'm Hoping to Learn
My goal is to increase my understanding of using technology effectively in the elementary classroom. Specifically, I would like to explore incorporating the Promethean Board (Interactive Board), Google Earth, educational websites, distance-learning opportunities, and the Kindle Fire into lesson plans. Also, I would like to increase my understanding of the use of digital and video cameras.
Technology Expertise Level
Wow! I feel like I know so much and yet I am frequently lost. On a scale from one to ten, perhaps I am a four. That is giving me credit for the fact that I am fascinated with technology and I am willing to struggle, try, and eventually learn.
Grade and Number of Years
My passion is teaching third graders at Florence Carlton School located in the Bitterroot Valley. I feel fortunate to have been hired nine years ago after earning a degree in elementary education from the University of Montana. Even thought I have been assigned to the third grade for my entire teaching career, there has never been a dull year. Currently (2011/2012) seventeen lively boys and eight little girls show up each day, so the challenge to teach continues.
Degree
My goal is to complete a Masters in Curriculum and Instruction in June of this year.
Item of Interest
My career path, which eventually led to the field of education, might be of interest. During the 1970's I earned a degree in business/accounting from the University of Montana and after graduation I worked in Seattle as a C.P.A. During the 1980's I ventured into full-time motherhood and with my husband raised three children. Perhaps it was the diversity of these three children that inspired me to pursue my current career as an elementary educator.
